  Do White Squirrels Really Exist?

Ric Wallace, a London photographer, was told of these white squirrels by fellow Londoners, James & Dolores Hunter. Jim was telling Ric about a potential prize-winning photograph that he had taken of a white squirrel hanging upside down on a tree. Jim was unable to produce proof of this photograph, leaving Ric to wonder if this was simply a tall tale, since he had never before heard of such unusual creatures. Ric decided to follow Jim's directions and make the 45 minute trip from London to McNaughton Park in Exeter to see if these critters actually existed. Believing Jim's story to be a practical joke, Ric decided he would not tell Jim about his trip to Exeter unless he actually found these squirrels.

Sharing in squirrel profits

To Ric's surprise he found these white squirrels and was able to get many prized photos. Every time he visits with the Hunters he brings a bag of peanuts - their share of the profits.

On a later trip to Exeter, Bob Gehan at Stedmans V&S showed an interest in selling some of the prints and fridge magnets made from Ric Wallace's pictures. Since then, Stedmans V&S has carried many white squirrel souvenir items that Ric Wallace has created including prints, fridge magnets, bookmarks, greeting cards, postcards, buttons, and key tags.
Stedmans V&S sells a wide variety of white squirrel creations from other artists and companies, making them the largest retailer of White Squirrel Souvenirs. Since Stedmans V&S association with Ric Wallace, they have started to use the World Wide Web by promoting Stedmans V&S and the white squirrels.

In June 2000, Stedmans commissioned Ric to create a postcard - displayed to the right. In July 2001, Ric Wallace created a CD-ROM screen saver & mouse pads of the white squirrels of Exeter. A shareware version of the screen saver was also put on the Internet with good response and in turn has helped www.WhiteSquirrels.ca to promote the much-loved White Squirrels of Exeter.
